Analysis of the cavitation instabilities with time-resolved stereo and multiplane particle image velocimetry

The present paper is devoted to the analysis of various instabilities cavitation attached a two-dimensional (2D) profile. Time resolved stereo particle image velocimetry was conducted in small-scale 2D Venturi type section, different vertical planes streamwise direction, located at varying positions depth channel. These experiments enabled obtain time evolution three components velocity field area and derive time-averaged gradients spanwise direction. Test cases Reynolds numbers were conducted, maintaining either pressure or number constant, discuss impact these parameters on flow. Then, attention focused distinct flow dynamics, namely, sheet cavitation, where no large-scale instability can be detected, single cloud large vapor shed periodically rear cavity, multi-cloud process more complex, as than one clouds are downstream. Data reveal that structure re-entrant jet, which primary mechanisms complex reported previous studies. Although jet detected an intermittent low speed reverse it actually made successive vortices about channel depth, convected downstream while expanding causing cavity lift and, thus, contributing its final split shedding.
